The No. 49 Guy Looks Like He Started Celebrating Before Everyone Else Arrived

Hat on. Flag out. Finger in the air.

He hasn’t even waited for the rest of the collection.

That bearded No. 49 figure was the first thing I noticed in the San Francisco 49ers Collector Pop Figure Set. Between the oversized brown hat, huge grin, red jersey and 49ers-style flag, he looks like the person responsible for getting everybody else excited.

Then I moved across the lineup and realized each of the other four figures has a completely different role to play.

This isn’t really five versions of one football collectible.

It’s closer to five snapshots from the same game day.

No. 13 Brings the Football Part Back Into Focus

Right beside all that flag-waving energy is the helmeted No. 13 figure.

The pose is much more controlled: football in one hand, the other hand extended, gold helmet on and red jersey paired with gold pants.

I like the contrast.

The No. 49 character looks like he belongs among the fans. No. 13 looks like he’s already thinking about the next play.

And because the design uses the same red, gold and white palette, they still look naturally connected when displayed together.

One Fan Brought a Foam Finger. The Other Brought Dinner.

Now we get to the two figures I’d probably have the most fun arranging.

The female supporter is pictured in a red-and-white knit beanie with a pom-pom, matching scarf, red top and face-paint-style stripes. She’s holding an enormous #1 foam finger that is almost impossible to miss.

She’s clearly prepared to cheer.

The seated fan took a different approach.

He brought sunglasses, a drink, a burger, a folding chair and his own miniature red grill.

There is something wonderfully committed about giving a tiny collectible figure an entire tailgate setup.

I’d keep the chair and grill together in the display rather than separating them. Without those details, he’s a fan figure. With them, he has basically claimed his own little parking-lot party.

No. 85 Gets the Celebration Spot

The fifth pictured design wears a red No. 85 jersey with gold pants and a black 49ers-style cap.

He’s smiling, raising one fist and holding a large silver football trophy-inspired piece.

The trophy makes him an obvious choice for the celebration side of the display, although I wouldn’t use the image itself to claim that it represents a particular championship or season.

Visually, that’s all it needs to do.

The other four figures build the game-day atmosphere; No. 85 supplies the big finish.

Then the seated guy gets his own corner with the grill.

Because the San Francisco 49ers Collector Pop Figure Set may have five figures, but only one of them remembered that watching football can make you hungry.
